Residing in Changping

 

1. Student dormitories

There are 11 student dormitory buildings in the Changping school district. They are divided into four sections and named respectively ¡°Plum blossom,¡± ¡°Orchid,¡± ¡°Bamboo¡± and ¡°Chrysanthemum.¡± ¡°Chrysanthemum¡± is located outside the school¡¯s north gate; its dormitories are for male students in undergraduate programs. Additionally, buildings No.1 and 2 in ¡°Orchid¡± and No.3 in ¡°Bamboo¡± are also for male undergraduate students. Buildings No. 1 to 3 in ¡°Plum blossom¡± and No. 1 and 2 in ¡°Bamboo¡± are for female students in undergraduate programs. The No.3 and 4 buildings in ¡°Orchid¡± are reserved for double bachelor or legal master's degree students.

Student dormitories at CUPL are average level accommodations for domestic university dormitories. An undergraduate student dormitory houses 4-6 people using bunk beds. There are several water houses and bathrooms on each floor of the building. Heating and ventilation are available.

     Each dormitory building is equipped with an automatic washer, providing pay-per-wash service for 3.5 yuan/load. Once a month, student bed sheets and bedding bags can be washed free of charge. Each floor has a laundry dryer for free use.

Each flat will have access to an air pump, microwave oven, shoe shining machine, medicinal herbs pot, sewing kit and so on.

2. Hotels

     There are several hotels in the surrounding area of different standards with generally cheaper rates compared to hotels inside the city zone. The following chart is a reference including the nearby two to three-star hotels:

Additionally, there are many small hostels diagonally opposite the south gate and in the west lane beside the Sunshine Commercial Building; the rate is about 100 yuan/night.

3. Rental information

There are many apartments for rent in the surrounding communities. Students usually choose accommodations in: the family residential courtyard of CUPL, the ¡°watch factory¡± community, the Dongguan Nanli community or the Ningxin Center (Songyuan community).

A single room in the residential courtyard of CUPL costs 300-500 yuan/month, and a two-room flat costs 800-1000 yuan/month (a ¡°two-room flat¡± includes two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, a bathroom and a balcony; ¡°a single room¡± refers to a room in the two-room flat. The tenant generally co-rents the two-room flat with another person, sharing the kitchen and the bathroom). Flats in the residential courtyard are usually old, but the interior is typically fine; these flats should be examined in person. The family residential courtyard has the primary advantages of being near to the school, being situated in the school¡¯s control area, and enjoying good public security.

The price of renting in other communities around the school will depend upon the quality and area of the flat.

There are many rental brokers providing some renting information located along the lanes beside the Sunshine Commercial Building and around No.1 Middle School of Changping.

Also, there is a public bulletin board at the gate of the school hospital, often with some renting information on it, mostly advertising accommodations for rent in the family residential courtyard. Those interested in renting may wish to monitor it. 

Warnings:

£¨1) Make sure of the identity of the house owner. Check his personal identification and housing ownership or leasing contract. Make sure the water, electricity and gas are safe and qualified for use.

£¨2£©You must sign a renting contract stipulating the bilateral rights and the duties of the landlord. You can consult with school mates who have rented a room previously.

£¨3£©It is better to tell your schoolmates and teaching management personnel your renting information for the sake of connection.
